Just Another Poem About Love (You should still read it)

Home / Diary of A Narcissist's Wife / Just Another Poem About Love (You should still read it)

Love is everything
It is the sun, and the moon and the stars that, at night, we wish upon,
longing for someone to hold us tight.
But then, that wish comes true,
yet, we still feel blue as we stare at the the cold side of the mattress-
still empty.

Though Love should be warm
I sometimes find
I need to wrap my arms around myself
to keep out the chill
While choking down the bitter pill
of his silence

Though Love should laugh
there is an ocean of tears, coursing just beneath the surface
of the half-hearted smile on my lips
and the phrase I repeat by wrote:
“Everything’s fine.”

Though Love should fly
the weight of a thousand thoughtless words presses down
And all around is not wind and sky
But the ashes from a fire gone cold

For Love was once a flame
And a game, we would laugh while playing
And because we had the audacity to believe
That some things last forever
We find that clever Fate had other plans
Other schemes.

Love promised to stay
But that was yesterday, it seems
When the deal was sealed with a kiss.
And now? Only this…
We reminisce…
And we miss the the warmth of the flame
And the game
And the laughter.
The ‘Ever After’ is no longer so happy…

Now Love is only a myth- it’s urban legend
It’s the glorious dream that we wake from, too soon
When only the moon, in her loneliness, offers comfort
To those who share her fate
And relate to how it feels
To exist as only a reflection
Of something brighter.

Until next time,
~ The Narcissist’s Wife

Hi. I'm Story Lynne, (a.k.a. The Narcissist's Wife). Nice to meet you. I'm the mother of 4 amazing kids, the (soon-to-be-ex) wife of a narcissist, and the author of this blog. I'm also a teacher, a healer, an intuitive empath, and Angel Card Reader. I love fairies, angels, the color pink, anything sparkly, and Legos. (the Elves are my absolute favorites). I also love fixing cars, building shit, and shooting my bow (as in, bow and arrow).

You know you want to say something. Go on....
